The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade: Official Announcement Facts

The Witcher 3 Remastered free upgrade is attached to a longer official title: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. CD PROJEKT RED used that name on August 25, 2026. Steam uses it on the Complete Edition page. Shorter search queries usually mean the same project; this article stays with the wording those two pages actually printed.

The owner checklist by storefront is on witcher 3 remastered free upgrade. Platforms and features in one place: Witcher 3 Remastered.

Steam still hosts the upgrade on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. There is no second Steam app in the announcement for a paid remaster SKU.

The August 25 press release

The Press Center post is short and specific. Remastered launches September 29, 2026. It is a free upgrade for existing The Witcher 3 owners on qualifying platforms, with upgrades to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more, when it launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Two other storefronts share the date. Nintendo Switch 2 gets a native version. Battle.net gets a release through a new partnership with Blizzard Entertainment. Those lines sit next to the free-upgrade sentence. They are not the same sentence.

The same page notes that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has won over 250 Game of the Year awards and sold more than 65 million copies. That is CDPR’s reason for going back to 2015. It is not a price.

What Steam adds

Steam’s Complete Edition copy says the game will be upgraded for free to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on September 29. It calls the result the definitive way to play the RPG, with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, plus technical and gameplay upgrades for current owners.

It also flags that system requirements change on 2026.09.29. No CPU or GPU list sits under that note yet.

Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine, and Songs of the Past

CDPR says the original 2015 game and its first two expansions are being modernized in Remastered. Songs of the Past is separate: a paid expansion in 2027. Steam’s DLC page says that content requires Complete Edition.

The launch calendar is on witcher 3 remastered 2026. PlayStation’s 2022 and 2026 library is on the witcher 3 ps5.
