If you already own The Witcher 3 on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, the witcher 3 remastered free upgrade is the sentence that matters. Who that sentence actually names is a shorter list than the launch lineup.
PC, PS5, and Xbox
The August 25 announcement ties the free upgrade to existing owners on “qualifying platforms,” then lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in the same breath.
On PC, Steam is the only storefront that repeats the offer on the product page: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt upgrades to Remastered for free on September 29. Steam also warns that system requirements change on 2026.09.29. It does not publish the new hardware list.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are in that qualifying group. CDPR has not spelled out a 2026 PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store click-path in the press release. The old Support article about GOTY versus the base game was written for the 2022 next-gen patch, so it is a poor stand-in for Remastered install steps.
Switch 2 and Battle.net are a different deal
Both launch on September 29. Neither is written as a free upgrade of a copy you already own.

The Switch 2 line is a native version of Remastered. There is no price in the announcement, and no mention of a Switch 1 upgrade. Battle.net is a new PC storefront. CDPR does not say a Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox license moves there for free.
What you actually get
CDPR is modernizing the 2015 campaign plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The press list is specific: upgraded visuals and performance, enhanced combat, improved traversal, new Signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, and new finishers.
Songs of the Past is not in that bundle. It is a paid expansion aimed at 2027.
